If you notice the gaper in the first place photo is holding poles, which would imply he was skiing. I've yet to see anyone that high up on Goat's Eye in the middle of winter who was neither skiing nor snowboarding, tough walk through powder that deep.

Also the contest states that best ski picture wins skis, best snowboard picture gets a snowboard, the first place picture is a neither of snowboarding or skiing so which do they win? or is it neither?

Though this wasn't my favorite photo by a long shot, I still feel it was better than the current first place. I think it's because the subject in #1 looks like such a gaper. Though, spamming a forum to get votes is kinda lame, clearly mr leeson was much better at it!

Ester, people that usually go on about scenery and enjoying the day usually can't ski worth shit...gapers. It's a perfect excuse to not push your self a bit. The people that actually can ski enjoy the scenery and snow just as much, if not more. Skiing at a higher level means enjoying more time in the snow and scenery and enjoying even better terrain.
It would have been nice to see first prize go to some one that can actually rip it up and put the skis to good use.

This picture does not show the beauty of the mountains and the resort. You can barely see the person doing the flip and a bunch of snow. Not all people who ski to do tricks, some of jusr enjoy the day, the snow and the scenery.

Seriously though - I think it's when people vote for another photo. You can only vote once, so if someone votes for another photo after yours, it gets taken away.
